When Final Fantasy XII came out, I got it at release. I happily played it for a month or so, then Real Life intervened in some way and I stopped playing it. Other games came out and I started playing them, leaving my progress in FFXII at a standstill. Last month, I decided to fire it up again, just to giggles, and when I'd loaded my save, I noticed that I was at a loss for what I needed to do.
I admit it; I've done this on a number of games. Depending on the game, I may be able to pick it up right where I'd left off, but more and more often, I'm finding that I just can't continue on because I've lost my recollection of what it is that I was to be doing.
Let's discuss this. Have you run into a situation like this? What did you do? At what point do you decide it's better to start fresh than it is to try to continue on in hopes you'll remember exactly what you need to do?
Wild Arms for PS1 was like this for me. There was a glut of RPG's coming out, I was in a game buying mood, so I bought a ton of them. Anyways, I had about 15 hours into it and then it just sat for nearly two years. I had to start over when I picked it back up.
ReplyDeleteI've got many games that I put down and just can't get the motivation to pick back up.
It's definitely more applicable to RPG's or story driven action games than others.
Definitely agreed on how it's more applicable to RPGs than most other games. In my example, I've got over 60 hours in on FF XII and can't really justify starting anew.
ReplyDeleteIf I put a game down, I very rarely pick it back up and play it from where I left off. I don't know if this is due to the fact that I'm too lazy to remember where I was and how I arrived there, or if I'm just too damn stupid to remember where I was and how I arrived there. Regardless, I always just start over and enjoy (or sometimes not enjoy) the game. I actually just recently picked up a game again thinking I could get back into it again where I left off and history repeated itself, redo.
ReplyDeleteGood topic.
